Birds have no teeth. They have a gizzard. They lay eggs and do not succle their young as they have no mamary glands. They have no teats. All of their thoracic musculature of flight is anterior. Their latissimus dorsi are anterior in this way and are beneath their pectorals. Archaeopterx is believed to be the therapod which first evolved the ability for flight. There are other therapods thought to have independently evolved flight. Yet, while reptilian scales changed to feathers at the archaeopteryx divergence into Class Aves; it is notable that at a certain point in the speciations of all Species of Vertebrates all species have nearly identical though morphological highly variable; skeletons. Consider that all vertebrates have a skull and spine. Humans, whales, all canids, and all ungulata, have a skull and two femur. Note that Order Strigiform has an extra vertebra in the neck and an asymmetrical skull relative to the sub orbital bones and ear canals. The divergence of Order Strigiform’s avian otorlarynology, with it’s extra neck vertebra and asymmetrical skull, is for a sensory trigonometric pinpointing of sound and nocturnal vision which is in many ways similar to the mountain topping radio telemetry and smoke detection that ranger lookout towers can be used for via the obtainment of bearings from two static towers of known separation distance in order to determine a fix location of a forest fire or other phenomenon. Trigonometry is often very useful in it’s simplicity once understood.
Continuing; a hypothesis:
Order Strigiform triangulates sound and light so as to determine distance from “the Owl” to it’s prey. However, migratory birds, and homing pigeons in particular, have a sensory awareness of the magnetosphere. The WWI Artillery Officer Harold Truman fought Germans in remote locations with horse drawn light artillery in days prior to longwave radio and WWI is known for homing pigeons returning to roosts on bases while carrying small coded intelligence in falconry sachels. We have a concept now of Avian brain function in migration and hunting.
Notably, this author once observed proof of the electromagnetic sensory awareness of a skein of Canada Geese as the gander became confused as the skein passed over 500v powerlines near a 240v step down transformer. Note also that Squaemata Viperdae percieve IR radiation with glands at the sub orbital of their skulls and also with their forked tongues, whereas Squaemata generally do not have the same affinity for thermal radiation whennot Viperdae. (Vigils of vultures smell carrion from altitude while foraging in thermal upwelling convection.) And, certain nomenclatural divisions of entomological species have an afinity for UV radiation, based primarily on the fact that pollen reflects solar energy in the UV. So, vipers see IR, insects UV, Canids hear Acme dog whistles the way a human can not, and generally; the sensory awareness of most species difers from the visible spectrum of MHz percieved by Humans as visible light. Sound and light perception is similarly variable, and pitch perception is, in species to species comparison, highly variable between species like whales, honey bees, dogs, humans, invertebrates, and bats, for example. Intra species perception is also variable; many people hear well but few are truly gifted musicians.
The succinct question regarding birds in the Orders Strigiform and Falconiformes is: is there migratory sensation evolved for nocturnal hunting in particular; of MHz in these Orders, which is more attuned to electromagnetism akin to EEG and ECG than to the magnetospere? Might the cerebral cortexes of some Aves species have a capacity similar to a Magnetic Resonance Induction process yet without any induction of resonance: simply perceiving electromagnetism via nervous and occular tissues yet without induction of an energy then quantifiable in the subject matter’s return to a previous electromagnetic state?
What do owls see and hear on overcast winter nights as they position for the kill of a field mouse, hidden, under cover of snow and grasses, as such an owl flys past silently in snowfall… looking, listening, percieving, from elevations rods above?
What is the biological perception of MHz… in Kingdom Animalia?
