Magnetosphere… Radios and MHz…

I believe Hamlet was speaking of magnetic declination when he said he was Mad North by Northwest… Yet, my stories about the magnetosphere are mostly about my OS2U Pilot Grandfather, so, here is one of those: Grandpa told me in perhaps the early to mid 1980’s that there was a “New” broadband radio with a “Blue Button” which allowed frequencies higher than the HF/VHF/UHF broadband bandwidths of his often “older radio” laboratory.

In retrospect, in 2026; cellular telephones did not evolve into what they are today until much later than they might have. This is because all of the HF/VHF/UHF broadband bandwidths are open channel and therefore never encrypted. The technology for higher frequencies permitted the beginning of a telecommunications industry with frequencies using new technology which could be maintained as private and encrypted. Hence: “Cellular” radiotelephones.
